our story & travel philosophy /

we believe that travel truly makes you richer, and our carefully curated trips offer a depth of unique experiences, a spotlight on rich cultures, and new ways to feel alive and in touch with the world around you. on our retreats, groups unite over shared values of sustainability, discovery, and connection.

society verde got its start as a budding off-the-mat yoga travel project dedicated to responsible exploration of lesser-known lands. on our inaugural trip to cuba in november of 2017, we witnessed how intentional travel can foster growth, and we committed to cultural and community wellness travel.

after a handful of successful starter years, our project was grounded by the pandemic in 2020. our founder, melissa klimo-major, detoured fully into her established yoga career, using the global pause to study therapeutics and restorative practices.

when society verde returned to travel in january of 2022, we introduced our refreshed travel philosophy: explore & restore — because to travel well requires us to stay connected to our inner selves so we can find resonance with our outer world. whether you join an organized small group trip or let us curate a custom itinerary for you, our design is supported by this spirit of exploration & restoration.

every trip we offer is designed for you to shine your brilliance in the world and experience the brilliance of others. we’re here to organize your unforgettable experiences, nurture the genuine bonds you’ll create with your travel companions and the lands you roam, and champion your personal stories of growth.

travel rewards us most deeply when we are fully present.

society verde founder melissa klimo-major, also an experienced yoga practitioner, instructor, and educator, applies this philosophy to all aspects of travel. her skilled approach facilitates unmatched experiences that create genuine, lifelong connections to people and planet.
